All aboard the STEM Bus!

In Turkey, over 25 PPG volunteers have helped to transform an ordinary bus into a mobile STEM laboratory for young children. Using 125 litres of donated DELTRON® paint products, our team decorated the exterior of the bus in bright and bold colours to create a vibrant entrance. PPG also covered the cost of the bus, laboratory equipment and professional contractor services provided by our customer BUSCAR.

The touring STEM bus, which can accommodate 20 children at one time, was donated to the Turkish Ministry of Education’s Ümraniye branch in Istanbul. It will operate for five years and will help around 300 children every month.

The STEM bus is already on the road, each day visiting one of Ümraniye’s 93 kindergartens. Children receive specialist computing coding training. They also have the opportunity to learn about other STEM-based topics and partake in exciting science experiments.

Teachers from the Nurten Yıldırım Sancak Kindergarten have created an exceptional STEM curriculum, and PPG employees have also been trained as coaches to assist on the bus.

“The STEM Bus is a first in Turkey, and it demonstrates PPG’s commitment to increasing STEM-related education in the communities where it operates. We are very excited to help the children in our community to explore the world of STEM in such a unique and engaging environment,” says Olivier Krau, PPG General Manager, Turkey

This initiative is being delivered through the COLORFUL COMMUNITIESTM program, PPG’s signature initiative for community engagement efforts. We are delighted to see the STEM bus making early STEM education fun for so many young children in Turkey and hope to see similar learning environments introduced in other countries.
